Depression & Anxiety

While there are many things different about depression and anxiety I am going
to talk about the similarities and ways we may work together on addressing
these conditions. To begin with when I talk about anxiety or depression I
always refer to the experience of depression or anxiety. This is an important
difference given that many people I see say they "have" depression or anxiety.
Discussing it in terms of your experience invite the opportunity for healing.

Enough about that for now.

If you were to work with me on issues related to depression or anxiety we would
start by looking at your history. We primarily focus on what you want and what
you have tried. We will look at what has worked and has not. Other factors we
would look are what you think may influence or aggravate your experience or
depression or anxiety. Like I have said previously, we all have the power to
heal ourselves and our work will explore this possibility.

The other thing I need to mention in the use of
medications. Some people
who are involved in holistic practices seem to ignore Western medicine. It has
been my experience that medicine can be very effective. Especially when
symptoms of depression and anxiety can be overwhelming. Medicine reduces
the painful systems we experience and once the symptoms are more
manageable complementary therapies will be more effective. My belief in the
positive effects of medication however does not mean that all people
experiencing depression and anxiety will need it.
Some times anxiety and depression is our bodies way of telling us we must
change the way we are doing something. Being honest with ourselves and
working together the experience of anxiety and depression can be a wonderful
opportunity for growth.
